Peugeot 2008 tops France's 2026 SUV sales as market shifts toward affordable efficiency
Official registration data for June 2026 shows the French SUV market continuing a positive trend, with 188,787 new registrations – an 11.37% increase over June 2025. The Peugeot 2008 II led the segment with 21,470 units sold, followed by the Peugeot 3008 III (18,614) and the Renault Captur II (17,556). French manufacturers dominate the top fifteen models, reflecting strong domestic demand for compact urban SUVs.
At the same time, industry analysts note a growing consumer focus on lower purchase prices, fuel consumption and maintenance costs. Newer SUV models equipped with small turbocharged petrol engines, mild‑hybrid systems or full hybrid powertrains are being promoted as affordable options that deliver better economy without sacrificing the space and driving position that buyers value. This dual trend of robust sales and a push for more economical vehicles is reshaping the French SUV market in 2026.
