Peugeot 208 recalls and maintenance concerns
Peugeot has issued a recall for certain second-generation 208 models featuring internal combustion engines (ICE) and 48V mild hybrid (MHEV) powertrains. The recall, identified via the European Safety Gate system, targets vehicles produced between February 17 and March 5, 2026. The issue stems from potentially incompatible coolant used during factory production, which may cause corrosion, circuit obstructions, and leaks. Such failures could lead to overheating or, in cases where fluid reaches electrical components, a risk of fire.
Repairs are free of charge through the Peugeot dealer network. Owners can verify if their vehicle is affected by checking their VIN.
Separately, potential buyers of used Peugeot 208 models are advised to exercise caution regarding the 1.2 PureTech engine. This engine has a documented history of premature timing belt wear, which can lead to significant mechanical issues. Buyers should verify the specific engine variant using the VIN and request detailed maintenance records to confirm if the belt has been inspected or replaced.
