Peugeot 9X8 hypercar development set for 2027 WEC season

Peugeot Sport unveiled early design cues of the next‑generation 9X8 hypercar during test runs at the Circuit du Castellet. The 2027 version will feature a conventional rear wing, a reworked front end with a distinctive horizontal air‑flow styling that recalls the brand’s 1990s 905, and a revised rear‑pod architecture. These changes aim to improve aerodynamic efficiency and performance ahead of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Team Peugeot TotalEnergies chief Emmanuel Esnault said the programme focuses on boosting power, efficiency and competitiveness, adding that the goal is to keep the 9X8 at the front of the hypercar class. The development work is part of a broader effort that will coincide with the launch of the next‑generation Peugeot 208 in summer 2027, positioning the hypercar as a global ambassador for the brand’s new design language.
