Peugeot launches electric e-208 GTi with 281 hp

Peugeot has announced the return of its iconic GTi badge with the new e-208 GTi, a fully electric performance hatchback. Developed by Peugeot Sport, the vehicle features a 281 hp (207 kW) electric motor producing 345 Nm of torque, enabling a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 5.5 seconds.

To enhance driving dynamics, the model includes a specific chassis setup with a 30 mm lower ride height, widened tracks, a mechanical limited-slip differential, and Alcon four-piston brakes. The vehicle is produced at the Stellantis plant in Zaragoza, Spain. While it shares technical components with the Opel Corsa GSE, the Peugeot version features unique fine-tuning.

Peugeot CEO Alain Favey stated that the future of the GTi must be electric, noting that the immediate torque of electric motors provides a driving experience that internal combustion engines struggle to replicate at this power level. Favey also cited European emission regulations and high taxation on high-performance combustion engines as key factors in the transition to electric power for the brand's sporty models.
