PFAS 'forever chemicals' flagged in US health study and firefighter gear

A U.S. study of more than 10,500 blood samples detected PFAS in 98.8% of participants, underscoring widespread exposure to these persistent chemicals linked to water systems, consumer products and household environments.

Brondell, a company that produces bidets, water filtration and other bathroom wellness products, highlighted growing consumer concern over water quality and sustainability. The firm cites the PFAS issue alongside its efforts to reduce toilet‑paper consumption, promote water‑saving technologies and support reforestation projects.

Separately, researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology have been systematically measuring PFAS concentrations in firefighter hoods, gloves and wildland‑fire gear since 2021, addressing health risks for first‑responders whose equipment can contain these “forever chemicals.”
