PFAS Restrictions Tighten in Singapore and Across US States

Singapore's National Environmental Agency has issued Circular NEA/HS/6.6, banning the import and use of firefighting foams containing Per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) such as PFOA and PFOS effective 1 January 2026. The move follows earlier prohibitions on PFHxS and aligns Singapore with the Stockholm Convention’s phase‑out commitments.

In the United States, a growing number of states are adopting their own PFAS rules. Minnesota and New Mexico, among others, are set to require product‑level PFAS reporting and labeling by January 2027 and aim to prohibit the sale of items with intentionally added PFAS by 2032. These state initiatives add to a broader national trend of tighter chemical oversight that will affect manufacturers and traders of electronics, textiles, packaging, automotive parts, and related goods.
