Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to reopen after Timber Fire

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is scheduled to partially reopen to visitors on October 16, following a closure that began in late August. The park was shut down due to the Timber Fire, which burned more than 25,000 acres in the Los Padres National Forest, including over 500 acres within the park boundaries.

During the emergency response, the park served as a critical base camp and incident command location for CAL FIRE, the U.S. Forest Service, and other cooperating agencies. Thousands of firefighters and support personnel utilized the site to manage evacuations and protect local infrastructure and natural resources in the Monterey County area.
