Berlin and Pforzheim push forward major urban projects and community programs

The Berlin U‑Bahn station Blissestraße, under renovation since May 2017, remains an open‑ended construction site on line U7. The BVG has installed a barrier‑free lift (operational November 2018) and completed several stair‑ and entrance‑renovations, but a final completion date has not been set.

In Pforzheim, the Quartier Werkstatt 2026 concluded on 24 July after three weeks of citizen meetings at three neighborhoods. Mayor Peter Boch highlighted the format’s role in fostering dialogue on smart‑city concepts, climate protection, mobility, caregiving and volunteerism. Participants explored topics such as the heat‑transition, energy‑renovation, digital applications and local initiatives for the 2038 state garden show.

The Linke Medienakademie (LiMA26) will take place in Berlin from 30 September to 4 October 2026, offering around 40 workshops on media production, strategic communication, storytelling and data‑driven journalism for activists, journalists and organizers.

Citizen‑focused “Ortsteilbegehungen” tours are scheduled in Eichstätt between early August and early October, featuring dialogues on local projects, senior‑specific discussions and visits to construction sites. Mayor Josef Grienberger invites families and seniors to take part.

An academic volume titled “Doing City” examines post‑war urban practices in West German cities, presenting case studies such as Siegen’s Winchenbach district and the redevelopment of the Siegplatte, expanding the historical perspective on urban habitus.
