PfP Thrive launches BuildHer trades programme for women in Derby
PfP Thrive is launching BuildHer, a free programme in Derby this September designed to help women build careers in the housing and construction sectors. Aimed at women living in social housing, the initiative seeks to address the significant gender imbalance in the trades.
According to CITB data, women represent only 1-2% of site-based skilled trades workers and 14-15% of all construction workers. The programme will offer hands-on experience, mentoring from industry professionals, and pathways toward apprenticeships and employment in fields such as electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, plastering, and tiling.
Tom Arey, managing director of PfP Thrive, stated that the programme aims to provide the confidence and practical support necessary for women to enter the industry, whether they are changing careers or returning to the workforce.
