PGA golfer Si Woo Kim accidentally crosses U.S.–Canada border on way to Detroit dinner

Si Woo Kim, a 31‑year‑old PGA Tour player, was heading to a Korean‑BBQ dinner in Detroit before the Rocket Classic when a Google Maps error led him to a restaurant of the same name just across the U.S.–Canada border. He drove into Canada, stopped at a tollgate, and was intercepted by eight border‑patrol officers who questioned him, checked his vehicle and belongings, and eventually allowed him to re‑enter the United States. The incident caused a 90‑minute delay, but Kim arrived in time for the tournament.

Fellow golfer Michael Kim, who had invited Si Woo to dinner, recounted the mishap on social media, describing the officers’ confusion and the lengthy line at the border. Both players later confirmed the story at a press conference in Detroit, noting the humorous side of the mix‑up as they prepared for the $10 million Rocket Classic at the Detroit Golf Club.
