Raymond James to sponsor Greensboro PGA Tour event

The PGA Tour has announced that Raymond James will replace Wyndham as the title sponsor for the Greensboro, North Carolina, tournament starting in 2027. The event, which has been held in Greensboro annually since 1938, will be renamed ‘GO by Raymond James’ to honor its heritage as the Greater Greensboro Open.

As part of a multi-year agreement, the tournament will be elevated to the top-tier PGA Tour Championship Series by 2028. This series will consist of approximately two dozen tournaments, including the majors and The Players Championship, where top performers compete for $20 million prize funds. The event will continue to be hosted at Sedgefield Country Club.

The rebranding has drawn some criticism from golf commentators, such as Brendan Porath of Fried Egg Golf, who described the minimalist ‘GO’ branding as a ‘mockery’ of the tournament’s long history. Despite the backlash, Raymond James CEO Paul Shoukry stated the partnership reflects confidence in the tour’s new leadership and vision.
