PGE Ekstraliga speedway eyes new TV deal and format changes
Telewizja Polska (TVP) is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire a sub-license for PGE Ekstraliga speedway matches. The proposed deal would involve broadcasting one match per round on Fridays, aired simultaneously with Canal+. While no official agreement has been signed or confirmed by either broadcaster, the arrangement aims to return the sport to free-to-air television, which has been limited to paid platforms since 2026.
Separately, discussions regarding the future structure of the PGE Ekstraliga are emerging. Proposals have been floated to reduce team rosters to six riders starting in 2029 to encourage the development of younger talent and reduce financial dependency on wealthy clubs. Although league president Wojciech Stępniewski has denied rumors of immediate revolutionary changes, supporters of the idea, such as Adam Krużyński of PRES Toruń, argue that such shifts are necessary to secure the long-term future of the sport in Poland.
