PGE launches second waste-to-energy line in Rzeszów
PGE Energia Ciepła, part of the PGE Group, has launched a second technological line at the Thermal Waste Processing with Energy Recovery (ITPOE) plant in Rzeszów. The investment, valued at over 362 million PLN, increases the facility's annual processing capacity by 80,000 tons, bringing the total to 180,000 tons of municipal waste per year.
The new line provides 7.6 MW of electrical power and 16.8 MW of thermal power. Additionally, a heat recovery system using flue gas condensation provides at least 3.46 MW of extra thermal power. The facility processes non-recyclable municipal waste to generate heat for the city's heating network and electricity.
The plant currently meets the heating needs of approximately 65% of Rzeszów residents and is the only thermal waste processing facility in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. Eliza Zeidler, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, noted that the project emphasizes local content and domestic economic value, while PGE CEO Dariusz Lubera highlighted the company's commitment to energy security and decarbonization.
