STF President Fachin orders Federal Police to report on Vorcaro cell phone data FAST-MOVING
Supreme Federal Court (STF) President Edson Fachin has ordered the Federal Police to provide information within 24 hours regarding the custody and status of data extracted from the cell phone of former banker Daniel Vorcaro. This decision follows requests from ministers Cristiano Zanin, Alexandre de Moraes, and Gilmar Mendes, who are seeking full access to the device's contents.
The dispute centers on the 'Master Case' investigation. Minister André Mendonça, the rapporteur, has stated that the data is held in a sealed, inaccessible encrypted hard drive in his office as a backup, while the original material remains with the Federal Police. This restriction has been contested by the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR), which argues that asymmetric access to information compromises the parity and collegiality required for the court's deliberations.
A plenary session is scheduled for Tuesday (15) to discuss Petition 16.662, which may open an investigation into potential relations between Alexandre de Moraes and Daniel Vorcaro. Additionally, Fachin denied a request to join this matter with a separate investigation into Mendonça's role in the Master Case, which is slated for analysis on September 23.
Separately, Federal Police Director Andrei Rodrigues defended intelligence reports used by Moraes against Mendonça, asserting they were produced for judicial purposes and do not constitute illicit monitoring.
