Phú Quốc LRT Line 1 slated for Q2 2027 completion, linking airport to APEC hub

Construction of the Phú Quốc Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 began on 19 December 2025 and is targeted for completion in the second quarter of 2027. The 17.59 km line, costing nearly VND 9 trillion, will connect Phú Quốc International Airport with the APEC 2027 conference and tourism complex on the island’s south coast.

The route includes 14.81 km of at‑grade track, 0.78 km of elevated guideway and 2 km of underground sections, serving six stations themed after Vietnam’s regions (North‑West, Hanoi, Hue, Central Highlands, Saigon and Gem Island). Trains will consist of three cars, run at 70‑100 km/h, and carry about 4,500 passengers per hour, reducing the airport‑to‑APEC travel time to roughly 18‑20 minutes. As of August 2026, pile foundations are complete, tunnel and station works are underway, and track installation is scheduled to start by the end of the month.
