PharmAccess outlines conditions for safer NCD care in Ghana
To commemorate World Patient Safety Day, PharmAccess Country Director Bonifacia Benefo Agyei has outlined four essential conditions for improving the safety of care for patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs). These conditions include quality standards, outcome-based care, digital continuity, and facility financing.
Addressing the challenges in Ghana, where NCDs such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease account for over 40 percent of deaths, Agyei emphasized the need for medical information to travel with the patient to prevent errors during consultations and referrals. PharmAccess intends to work with the Ghana Health Service, the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), and private providers to ensure that quality NCD care is managed by local Ghanaian institutions and teams.
