Pharmaceutical industry integrates AI and autonomous laboratories
The pharmaceutical industry is undergoing a technological transformation driven by artificial intelligence and large-scale industry integration. Roche Holding AG has announced plans to develop autonomous AI-driven laboratories to accelerate drug discovery. The company reported that approximately 40% of its pipeline decisions between late 2025 and mid-2026 involved AI or computational contributions, with a goal for its Target Nexus platform to support 80% of research portfolio decisions by the end of 2026.
These autonomous laboratories aim to independently design experiments, execute protocols, and interpret results. Aviv Regev, Head of Genentech Research and Early Development, noted the importance of companies developing proprietary AI capabilities to maintain a competitive advantage.
Complementing these technological shifts, the India Pharma Expo 2027 is scheduled for March 11–13 at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad. The event is designed to connect the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare ecosystems, featuring over 300 exhibitors and focusing on areas such as AI-driven drug discovery, digital health, and advanced diagnostics.
