Pharmaceutical shortages and EMA drug restrictions reported

Reports indicate ongoing pharmaceutical shortages in Italy for the period of September 19 to 25, 2026. The list of affected medications includes various treatments such as Bomyntra, Bromazepam, Carbamazepine, Linezolid, Risperdal, and Telmisartan, among others. These updates are provided through a collaboration between FarmaciaVirtuale.it and Farmadati Italia Srl.

Separately, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has proposed restricting the uses of Ipidacrine. While the drug is not being withdrawn from the European market, the committee noted that the quality of evidence for certain uses was inconsistent or lacked adequate comparison. The proposal aims to refine the drug's indications, particularly for neurological symptoms and intestinal atonia, requiring prescriptions to be managed by expert physicians. A legally binding decision from the European Commission is still pending following the CHMP's opinion.
