Korean Pharmaceutical Association protests medicine delivery expansion

The Korean Pharmaceutical Association (KPA) has launched large-scale protests against the government's plan to expand medicine delivery services for all telemedicine patients. During a massive rally in Gwanghwamun, over 10,000 pharmacists and pharmacy students gathered to demand the withdrawal of the policy.

The KPA argues that expanding delivery without sufficient safety measures could lead to drug misuse, medicine degradation during transport, and the compromise of personal medical data. They also expressed concerns that the move favors private platforms and could strain the national health insurance system. Currently, the law limits home delivery to specific vulnerable groups, such as the disabled and residents of remote areas.

In contrast, patient and consumer advocacy groups are calling for the expansion, arguing that telemedicine is only truly effective if it includes the convenient receipt of prescribed medications. Meanwhile, the remote healthcare industry has urged the KPA to participate in discussions to design a safe and functional delivery system rather than opposing the policy entirely.
