PHE ONWJ denies involvement in Karawang oil spills

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) has reported that laboratory results show oil slicks found on the coasts of Sedari and Cemarajaya in Karawang are not linked to their operations.

During a hearing with the Karawang Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), General Manager Wirdan Arifin stated that oil fingerprinting conducted by the Indonesian National Police Forensic Laboratory (Puslabfor) confirmed the samples were not identical to PHE ONWJ’s oil characteristics. Additionally, backtracking models suggest the source of the spill originated from the southeast of the discovery locations, outside of the company’s operational area.

The company emphasized that its production operations showed no anomalies and that they utilized drones, sea vessels, and helicopters to respond to community reports.
