Phenikaa University invests VND 80 billion in STEM and launches new planetarium

Phenikaa University has announced a VND 80 billion (approximately US$3 million) investment in STEM education for 2026. As part of this initiative, the university has launched the Phenikaa Planetarium, an international-standard facility designed for astronomy education, scientific engagement, and experiential learning.

The new planetarium features a 16-metre-diameter dome equipped with five Sony GTZ380 projectors and SkyExplorer simulation software. This technology allows for detailed simulations of the night sky and will serve as a key venue for the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2026), which Vietnam is hosting for the first time. The event is expected to bring together nearly 500 delegates from 64 countries, including over 300 high-school contestants.

According to Prof. Dr. Ho Xuan Nang, Chairman of the Phenikaa University Council, the investment aims to support the next generation of scientists and innovators by integrating research, technology, and hands-on scientific experience.
