Mississippi judge dismisses murder indictment against Tameshia Shelton
A Mississippi judge has dismissed the murder indictment against Tameshia Shelton, ending a legal case that spanned nearly two decades. Circuit Judge James T. Kitchens canceled a scheduled trial in Clay County and agreed with District Attorney Scott Colom to drop the charges.
Shelton, 48, had previously served 11 years in prison following a conviction for the 2009 shooting death of Danelle Young, her sister’s boyfriend. Her conviction was overturned by an appellate court, and the Mississippi Supreme Court subsequently upheld the ruling, ordering a new trial. Shelton was released on bond in June 2026.
