Phil Campbell death ruled as multi-organ failure
A coroner has ruled that Phil Campbell, the long-serving guitarist for the heavy metal band Motörhead, died from multi-organ failure. The inquest, held at St Pancras Coroner’s Court, revealed that Campbell died on March 13 at the age of 64 following complications from several necessary surgeries.
Earlier this year, the Welsh musician underwent two liver transplants and bowel surgery at the Royal Free Hospital in London. While the second liver transplant was considered successful, Campbell suffered further complications and was moved to intensive care, where his condition deteriorated rapidly. Coroner Dr. Richard Brittain stated that “nothing suggests that his death could have been avoided.”
Campbell joined Motörhead in 1984 and remained with the band until it disbanded in 2015. A funeral for the musician was held in Wales on May 13.
