Phil Collins' 2024 Health Crisis Highlights Alcohol-Related Risks

In 2024 the former Genesis front‑man Phil Collins was hospitalized in Switzerland after his kidneys and other organs began failing, a condition he attributed to long‑term alcoholism. While unconscious, doctors debated whether to keep him on life support, and his manager contacted his five children, who were told they might have to say goodbye.

Collins later recounted the episode in an interview with The Sunday Times, saying he was “very lucky to have come out of that” and that he has not drunk alcohol since. The health scare follows earlier diagnoses of type‑2 diabetes and a need for 24‑hour care. In March 2022, during a Genesis concert, his son Nick stepped in on drums when Collins could not continue. Collins, who has sold around 150 million records, is slated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in November 2026.
