Phil Collins survived 2024 near‑death from alcohol‑induced organ failure
Phil Collins, the 75‑year‑old former Genesis frontman, disclosed that a relapse into heavy drinking led to a life‑threatening health crisis in 2024. He was first admitted to a Swiss hospital in November 2023, released three days before Christmas, and readmitted weeks later to intensive care, where he remained unconscious for about seven months. During the second stay his kidneys began to fail and his organs “were just seizing up,” prompting doctors and his long‑time manager to decide whether to keep him on life‑support. His five children – Joely, Lily, Simon, Nicholas and Matthew – were called to his bedside, though Collins does not recall seeing them. He now credits “huge luck” for surviving, has stopped drinking, lives alone in Switzerland with a 24‑hour nurse, walks with crutches, and manages type‑2 diabetes and lingering spinal issues. He said he would like to find love again and continue making music.
