Phil Collins and Paul McCartney reconcile after 24-year feud
Musician Phil Collins has reconciled with Paul McCartney after a dispute lasting approximately 24 years. During an interview on ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’, Collins explained that the tension began in 2002 during rehearsals for Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace.
Collins had brought a rare first edition of a Beatles biography by Hunter Davies to request McCartney’s autograph. He felt insulted when McCartney made a comment to his then-wife, Heather Mills, referring to him as ‘our little Phil’. While Collins admitted he may have overreacted to the remark, the incident led to decades of resentment.
The reconciliation was prompted by a recent charitable initiative for The King’s Trust. McCartney contacted Collins regarding the collection of musical memorabilia for an auction, which led to a phone call where the two addressed their long-standing disagreement. Collins expressed regret for his past reactions and for maintaining the grudge for so long.
In the same interview, Collins also reflected on his personal life, expressing regret over the dissolution of his three marriages and the impact his career had on his relationship with his children, including actress Lily Collins.
