Phil Gore completes 1,019km ultramarathon to raise funds for Telethon
Endurance runner Phil Gore completed 152 laps of a 6.71km loop during his ‘Project 168’ ultramarathon attempt, covering a total distance of 1,019.92km. The attempt, held at the Armadale Soccer Club oval in Perth, aimed to have Gore run one lap every hour for 168 consecutive hours to raise funds for Telethon.
Gore was forced to stop after six days and eight hours due to fatigue, falling 16 laps short of his ultimate goal. Despite not completing the full 168 hours, the effort surpassed its original fundraising target of $168,000, raising over $250,000 for the charity.
The feat set a new benchmark for the backyard ultra format, with Gore completing 33 more laps than the previous world record. Medical personnel on site noted that the attempt demonstrated the extreme limits of human physical and mental endurance.
