Los Angeles Lakers to unveil Phil Jackson statue in 2027
The Los Angeles Lakers have announced plans to honor legendary head coach Phil Jackson with a bronze statue outside the Crypto.com Arena. The unveiling is scheduled for April 9, 2027, prior to a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jackson, who coached the franchise for 11 seasons between 1999 and 2011, led the team to five NBA championships and seven NBA Finals appearances. He holds the franchise record for coaching victories with 610 wins. Lakers governor Jeanie Buss stated that Jackson’s “masterful approach to coaching brought out the best in some of the greatest athletes to ever play this sport” and helped restore the team’s championship legacy.
With this tribute, Jackson becomes the ninth member of the Lakers organization to have a statue in the Star Plaza, joining icons such as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Pat Riley, and Chick Hearn.
