Phil King announces retirement from Regal Partners

Phil King, co-founder and chief investment officer of Regal Partners, has announced his retirement after a 40-year career in investing. Following the announcement, Regal Partners shares experienced an initial decline of up to 9 per cent before stabilizing at approximately a 7 per cent loss.

King, who has been with Regal for two decades, stated that his decision was a planned process initiated during the firm’s ASX listing in 2022 and was not due to health issues or internal conflicts. He intends to maintain an 8 per cent stake in the company's head stock and will continue investing through a charitable foundation.

Regal Partners is transitioning from a sole Chief Investment Officer model to a new structure. CEO Brendan O’Connor noted that while there is “no replacement for Phil King,” the firm is prepared for the transition with its existing team. The departure marks the end of an era characterized by King’s concentrated investment strategies and influence on the Australian market.
