Phil Lord and Chris Miller address Solo: A Star Wars Story dismissal

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have addressed their 2017 departure from the production of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’. The filmmakers, known for ‘The LEGO Movie’ and ‘21 Jump Street’, were replaced by Ron Howard following reported creative differences with Lucasfilm producer Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriters Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan.

The conflict reportedly stemmed from the directors’ improvisational style, which clashed with the structured approach desired by the writers and producers. Despite the high-profile shakeup, Lord and Miller expressed that they hold no resentment. They noted that they encouraged the crew to support Ron Howard in making a great film and mentioned that Kennedy has since reached out to congratulate them on recent successes.

When asked if they would ever return to the franchise, the duo responded, “Never say never,” indicating they remain open to future collaboration with Lucasfilm.
