Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers unveil new arena renderings

The Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers have unveiled the first exterior renderings for a new, privately funded arena in South Philadelphia. Planned for the site of the former Spectrum, the venue is intended to serve as the home for the NBA, NHL, and a future WNBA expansion team.

Designed by Populous and Moody Nolan, the architecture draws inspiration from the original Spectrum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, featuring stacked, cantilevered bands and arrival stairs reminiscent of the ‘Rocky steps’. The complex will include over a half-acre of outdoor fan plazas and food-and-beverage pavilions.

The project is a 50-50 partnership between Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Comcast Spectacor. It is projected to be the largest fully privately funded project in Philadelphia’s history, with estimates suggesting it will generate approximately $6 billion in economic activity and nearly 15,000 jobs over the next decade. The arena is targeted to open by 2030.
