Ariel Hukporti suffers season-ending Achilles injury

Philadelphia 76ers center Ariel Hukporti has suffered a season-ending injury after rupturing his right Achilles tendon during a preseason game against the New York Knicks. The 24-year-old German player sustained the non-contact injury in the first quarter, just minutes into his debut for Philadelphia.

Hukporti, who signed a one-year, $3.4 million contract following a championship season with the Knicks, underwent successful surgery on Tuesday. The injury significantly impacts the 76ers' frontcourt depth, as the team is already managing other injuries to centers Adem Bona, who is recovering from a foot sprain, and Tacko Fall, who is dealing with a hip strain.

Due to salary cap constraints related to the first apron, the 76ers may face difficulties immediately replacing Hukporti on the roster. The team is expected to receive a $1.7 million disabled player exception as a result of the injury.
