Philadelphia airport issues measles exposure alert
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has issued an emergency alert following a measles exposure at Philadelphia International Airport. The exposure occurred between 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, and 12:05 a.m. on Monday, September 14, affecting terminals B and F, as well as connecting areas C, D, and E.
An infected individual traveled through the airport but did not leave the premises. This incident marks the second reported measles exposure in the Philadelphia area, following a case at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Health officials are urging anyone who may have been exposed to check their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms.
Health Commissioner Dr. Palak Raval-Nelson emphasized the importance of staying up to date with vaccinations, noting that fully vaccinated residents face minimal risk. Officials are working to ensure potentially exposed infants receive antibody-based vaccines to prevent severe illness. This alert follows reports from August of two measles-related deaths in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
