Philadelphia announces new cruise terminal and affordable housing project

The Port of Philadelphia, known as PhilaPort, has inaugurated a new $60 million cruise terminal on the Delaware River. In partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line, the facility marks the resumption of cruises from the port after a 15-year hiatus. Officials, including Mayor Cherelle Parker, noted that the terminal is expected to support 2,185 direct and indirect jobs and generate significant regional economic benefits.

In North Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) has announced plans to develop 85 affordable homes in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. The project includes 55 subsidized rental units—comprising 19 townhomes and a 36-unit apartment building—and 30 single-family homes to be sold through the city’s ‘Turn the Key’ program. The development aims to revitalize blighted blocks and provide housing options with monthly costs significantly below median market rents.
