Philadelphia appoints first Rat Abatement Manager

Philadelphia has appointed Adrian Jordan as its first-ever Rat Abatement Manager to lead a coordinated citywide effort to reduce rodent activity. Jordan, a veteran of the Health Department with over twenty years of experience, will oversee a multi-departmental response involving six city agencies, including Public Health, Streets, Sanitation, and the Water Department.

The initiative, part of Mayor Cherelle L. Parker’s ‘One Philly’ response, aims to address conditions in residential and commercial areas that attract rats. The city will begin door-to-door surveys in Northeast Philadelphia neighborhoods, specifically targeting Oxford Circle and Castor Gardens, to identify infestations and provide prevention guidance.

To increase transparency, the city plans to launch a public dashboard to track resident complaints, contacts, and serviced properties.
