Philadelphia Ballet completes major North Broad Street expansion

The Philadelphia Ballet has completed a major expansion of its headquarters on North Broad Street, significantly increasing its operational capacity. The project, which quadruples the company’s square footage, involves a new five-story tower addition to its original building.

The new Center for Dance includes specialized facilities such as a Dance Innovation Lab, physical therapy rooms, music rooms, classrooms, and dedicated spaces for wardrobe and footwear. The facility also features the Petipa Studio, which includes large windows overlooking Broad Street, and a black box theater designed to make the space accessible to the public.

The total project cost is estimated at approximately $50 million, with the company currently continuing its fundraising efforts to reach that goal. Funding for the project has been sourced through private donations and support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The expansion aims to provide professional dancers and students with adequate space, moving away from previous limitations where staff and dancers shared cramped hallways and rented offices.
