Philadelphia celebrates local history and jazz through community initiatives

Historic Germantown is launching a free 250th Stamp Rally to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Running from September 12 through November 14, the scavenger hunt invites participants to visit 23 historic and cultural sites across Northwest Philadelphia to uncover the identities of influential figures, including abolitionists, artists, and innovators.

Participants can collect stamps and use QR codes to learn about the historical figures associated with each location. Rewards are available for those who complete various levels of the hunt, including trading cards and apparel.

In a separate cultural development, Philadelphia is marking the 100th birthday of jazz legend John Coltrane with $27,000 in grant funding for local artists through the Coltrane 100 initiative. The program includes various arts and jazz programming scheduled through November.
