Philadelphia City Council returns to address pending legislation

The Philadelphia City Council is returning from its summer recess to address several pending legislative matters. A primary focus is expected to be Councilmember Jamie Gauthier’s “Stop Trashing Our Air” bill.

The proposed legislation, which has already passed out of the Committee on the Environment, seeks to prohibit the city from sending trash to be incinerated. This bill directly challenges a recent decision made in July to award a new contract to the Reworld Trash incinerator in Chester. The contract is a four-year agreement with an option to renew for up to three years.
