Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard sidelined by injury

Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list following a pectoral strain sustained during weightlifting. The injury has raised concerns regarding his availability for the start of the season, with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio stating, “I don't know when Greenard will be back.”

Greenard recently signed a four-year, $98 million extension with the Eagles after being acquired via trade. Some analysts have labeled the contract overpaid, noting that his performance dipped in 2025 after high-sack seasons in 2023 and 2024. Even if he returns for the season opener against Washington, he is expected to be on a limited snap count.

To mitigate his absence, the Eagles are relying on depth at the position, including Jalyx Hunt, Arnold Ebiketie, A.J. Epenesa, and Nolan Smith. Hunt has emerged as a standout in training camp after leading the team in sacks and interceptions last season.
