Zach Ertz returns to Philadelphia Eagles following Goedert injury
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed veteran tight end Zach Ertz to their practice squad to address a depleted depth chart at the position. The move follows an injury to starting tight end Dallas Goedert, who is expected to miss several weeks after suffering a sprained MCL during the team’s 24-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
Ertz, 35, previously played nine seasons for the Eagles from 2013 to 2021, during which he earned three Pro Bowl selections and helped the franchise win Super Bowl LII. He joins the team after stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Commanders. While initially signing to the practice squad, reports suggest he may be elevated to the active roster quickly to provide veteran stability.
The Eagles' tight end room is currently facing significant challenges, as both rookie Eli Stowers and Grant Calcaterra are also sidelined with injuries. Ertz’s return offers a familiar target for quarterback Jalen Hurts and provides a chance for the veteran to chase franchise receiving records.
