Philadelphia expands school library access and student tutoring programs
Educational resources and literacy programs are expanding in Philadelphia for the 2026–27 school year. The West Philadelphia Alliance for Children (WePAC) is increasing its School Library Program from 14 to 16 elementary schools. This volunteer-led initiative provides library staffing, storytimes, and book circulation to support local students. To fund this expansion, WePAC has launched a $16,000 Back-to-School campaign to cover operational costs and materials for each partner school.
Additionally, the Free Library of Philadelphia is offering the LEAP program, providing free after-school homework assistance for K-12 students. The program includes activities focused on STEM, literacy, and the arts. For students unable to attend in person, the library also provides access to online tutoring services in English and Spanish through Tutor.com, covering subjects ranging from basic reading to college-level coursework.
