Philadelphia Flyers sign Michael Bunting to one-year deal

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed unrestricted free agent winger Michael Bunting to a one-year contract worth $1.2 million. The move comes as the team seeks to address a winless start to the season, having gone 0-2-2 with an outscored margin of 17-5.

Bunting, 31, is a veteran who has played for several NHL teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Arizona Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Nashville Predators, and Dallas Stars. He recorded 109 goals and 252 points in 418 career games. His most productive season was 2021-22 with Toronto, where he scored 23 goals and 63 points.

The signing is viewed as a low-risk addition by General Manager Danny Briere to provide scoring depth and a physical presence. Head coach Rick Tocchet, who previously coached Bunting in Arizona, may utilize his sandpaper-style play to spark the forward unit.
