Philadelphia Flyers teammates expect Matvei Michkov to return with increased edge

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov is expected to enter the upcoming NHL training camp with increased motivation following a challenging sophomore season. After a strong rookie campaign, Michkov faced criticism regarding his physical conditioning and saw reduced playing time under head coach Rick Tocchet.

Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale expressed confidence in Michkov’s potential during the NHL Player Media Tour, stating, “I imagine he’s going to come in with an edge, a little bit of an F-U, honestly after last year and all the heat.” Drysdale noted that Michkov possesses the necessary tools and knack to succeed.

Michkov has acknowledged that he arrived at last year’s camp out of shape, but reports indicate he has since focused on his fitness. Teammate Trevor Zegras commented on the difficulty of maintaining consistency, noting the high standard set by elite players like Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin.
