Philadelphia house fire kills child and critically injures mother
A 3-year-old girl has died and her 22-year-old mother remains in critical condition following a house fire in the Fairhill neighborhood of Philadelphia. The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday in a rowhome on the 3300 block of D Street.
Investigators determined that a lithium-ion e-bike battery located in an upstairs bedroom ignited the blaze. Officials noted that there were no smoke detectors present in the home.
Neighbors attempted to assist by helping a 5-year-old boy and his 24-year-old mother escape through a second-story window. Firefighters eventually reached the remaining occupants, but the child succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
