Philadelphia kicks off August with Firstival celebrations and 2nd Street Festival

Philadelphia’s cultural calendar opens the first week of August 2026 with a series of free festivals. The Academy of Natural Sciences hosts “Firstival,” marking its 1812 founding with dinosaur exhibits, a new sculpture, and family programming on August 1. The city’s waterfront also features the ACANA African Festival, showcasing African diaspora music, food and crafts, and the La Placita Fest, highlighting Puerto Rican culture, both on August 1‑2.

On August 2, the 16th annual 2nd Street Festival returns to North 2nd Street in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. The two‑day event stretches over 14 blocks, offering more than 250 vendors, food trucks, live music on two stages, family activities, and art installations as part of America’s 250th‑anniversary celebrations.

All events are free and open to the public, with organizers encouraging attendees to use public transit or walk due to limited parking.
