Philadelphia Liberty Bell Art Project Celebrates US 250th Anniversary
Artists across Pennsylvania are marking the United States' 250th birthday with a series of painted replica Liberty Bells displayed in neighborhoods throughout the state. In Philadelphia, the initiative places 24 fiberglass bells in 23 communities, including Chinatown, West Philadelphia, Mt. Airy and Parkside. Artists such as Chenlin Cai and his wife Xingzi Liang painted the Chinatown bell to highlight Asian‑American contributions, while Akira Gordon’s City Hall bell portrays a diverse local workforce. The project, coordinated by America250 PA, Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Visitor Center, pairs artists with residents to create designs that reflect each neighborhood’s cultural heritage and future aspirations.
