Philadelphia men surrender in Newark church crash investigation
Two Philadelphia men have surrendered to Newark, Delaware, police in connection with a January 13, 2025, incident where a vehicle crashed into a local church. The suspects, Brandon Mayes, 22, and Kasim Coleman, 25, were hospitalized following the crash but reportedly left the medical facility before detectives could secure arrest warrants.
Following a search that extended into Philadelphia and surrounding areas, Mayes surrendered on August 18, 2026. He faces charges including attempted theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, conspiracy, and multiple counts of criminal mischief. He was released on $3,703 unsecured bail.
Coleman surrendered on August 31, 2026. In addition to theft and criminal mischief charges, he faces first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangering. Coleman was held after failing to post $50,004 cash bail.
