Philadelphia murder conviction for 2012 officer killing overturned

A judge overturned the murder conviction of Rafael Jones for the 2012 killing of off‑duty Philadelphia police officer Moses Walker. Walker was shot during an attempted robbery after his shift ended. The conviction, which carried a life sentence, was vacated because of the involvement of former police detective Philip Nordo, who has since been convicted of witness and victim intimidation.

District Attorney Larry Krasner announced that his office will appeal the ruling, seeking to uphold the conviction without a retrial. Walker’s family expressed continued resolve, while the Fraternal Order of Police pledged ongoing support for the family as the case proceeds through the courts.
