Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts major Marcel Duchamp retrospective

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has opened a major retrospective of Marcel Duchamp, marking the first large-scale survey of the influential 20th-century artist in the United States in over 50 years. The exhibition features more than 300 works, including paintings, sculptures, films, and his famous “readymades.”

Key pieces on display include “Nude Descending a Staircase (No. 2),” the iconic “Fountain,” and the artist’s magnum opus, “The Large Glass.” The Philadelphia Museum of Art holds a deep connection to Duchamp, as it houses the Louise and Walter Arensberg collection, the world’s largest collection of his work.

The exhibition, co-organized with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, follows a debut at MoMA earlier in 2026. After its run in Philadelphia concludes on January 31, 2027, the retrospective is scheduled to travel to the Grand Palais in Paris in the spring of 2027.
