Philadelphia opens new $60 million cruise terminal

The new PhilaPort Cruise Terminal in Tinicum Township, near Philadelphia, has officially opened, marking the return of permanent cruise departures to the city after a 15-year hiatus. The $60 million, 16-acre facility along the Delaware River welcomed its first 2,500 passengers on August 27, 2026.

Norwegian Cruise Line has been operating from Philadelphia since April using a temporary check-in location at a local hotel, following construction delays caused by severe winter weather and permitting issues. The Norwegian Jewel was the first vessel to sail from the homeport during this interim period, offering trips to Bermuda.

Moving forward, Norwegian Cruise Line plans to operate 41 cruises annually from the terminal. The Norwegian Pearl is scheduled to take over operations in mid-November, providing year-round itineraries to destinations including the Caribbean, Canada, and New England. City officials, including Mayor Cherelle Parker, view the terminal as a significant driver for economic growth along the waterfront.
